Morrowind Texture Replacer Comparison Gallery

Welcome to the Morrowind Texture Replacer Comparison Gallery. This is (or at least, it will be) a comprehensive collection of all texture images from Morrowind and its various replacers created by the modding community. The purpose of this gallery is to allow you to compare specific textures side by side, to see what exactly a replacer will replace, to assist you in finding a specific single texture you may want to change, to help you learn the names of the various texture files and where they reside both ingame and in your Morrowind folder structure, and more.

This is heavily under construction, and I would appreciate any assistance in locating texture packs I may have left out (there are many on my to-do list, but I don’t know if I have truly found all that are available), so I am definitely open to suggestions as to which texture packs to add next.

I am also on the lookout for older texture packs that seem to have disappeared from the Morrowind community, such as several from Thepal’s Morrowind Texture Comparison that I can no longer find (such as Darker Morrowind).

Since I mentioned Thepal’s page, I do also plan to add some screenshots as he has done, but since you can usually find screenshots for a specific texture pack, the primary purpose of this page will be to compare the files individually. After the file galleries are complete, I will locate ideal places in the world for comparative screenshot sets that will hopefully show the majority of the game’s world textures, but this will be a future endeavor. I will, however, happily accept any suggestions of where you would like to see screenshots of the world (if you can provide coc coordinates and the direction I should face, even better).

Important Note

You cannot download textures or texture packs directly from these galleries. All images are presented for comparison purposes only, and have been converted to .jpg format. Images from this gallery cannot be used as Morrowind textures; in order to get these textures you will need to 1. own Morrowind and its expansions, and 2. download your desired texture packs from the links provided in the list below.

How to Use This Gallery

Click on a texture pack in the list that you want to look at. It will open in a new tab.

Click the link of the texture pack to which you want to compare the first one. It will open in another new tab.

If you are looking for a specific texture pack in this list, use Ctrl+F to make use of your browser’s Find feature. You can also use Find to locate a specific texture as long as you are on the right page for it.

There are dozens and dozens of images here. Depending on feedback, I will reorganize the gallery pages to have fewer images each, so as to shorten load times. However I would like to avoid, as much as possible, the confusion of splitting what is supposed to be a single folder into multiple pages.

The pages here are organized mostly like the file path of the Data Files folder.

The texture packs are listed here in alphabetical order, except for Morrowind’s original files which are listed first.

EXPECT REVISIONS. Now, on with the galleries!

Morrowind’s Original Files
These are the textures that ship with Morrowind, packed in the BSA files. Tribunal and Bloodmoon files are included, but in separate galleries rather than being lumped in together with the main game.

M

Mixed Textures v1.1-23107
by Khalazza productions (Zuldazug, Raptre, Lord Gabryael and Ayse), Qarl, Carnajo, Albedo, and Arttt Minion. Compiled by Duncan Imrryran. 2004.
Download from Morrowind Nexus.
Quick summary: Complete Morrowind landscape. Some (but not all!) of the same textures as Visual Pack, with some Tribunal and Bloodmoon added. Sticks closer to lore than Visual Pack. Unfortunately it changes one of the tapestry textures used for a bolt of cloth to have ragged edges, so bolts of cloth using that texture will have a white empty mesh showing at the edges. Use a tapestry replacer.

by Ayse, Lord Gabryael, Qarl, Raptre, & Zuldazug. 2005.
Download from Filefront.
Quick summary: Complete Morrowind landscape. Morrowind and very little Bloodmoon (no Tribunal); has some rather lore-breaking elements (Chinese dragons, tapestries made from fantasy book covers, etc). If you want to stay true to lore, you will need a fresco replacer and a tapestry replacer.
